ATLANTA (FEBRUARY 10, 2025) – A murder, multiple motives, secrets, and lies: the Big Easy just got a whole lot hotter! Hot Jambalaya is a debut murder-mystery comedy with new, original music from Dad’s Garage’s Matt Hobbs (Puppysongs) and Travis Sharp (Wicket), arriving just in time to extend your Mardi Gras celebrations.
Step aboard the aging steamboat, Fleur de Lis, for the decadent funeral of the wealthy and crooked Papa Joe Van Horn, who tragically—and mysteriously—”fell” from his French Quarter balcony one dark New Orleans evening. Not all is as it seems, however, as the colorful, wacky passengers uncover the chilling truth: Papa Joe was murdered, everyone on board has motive, and the killer is among them with the intent to strike again! As the Fleur de Lis perilously journeys through the bayou, it’s up to one ex-cop and a New York reporter with a thirst for the truth to uncover whodunit and solve the mystery before the killer strikes again!
Sharp is thrilled to see this creative labor of love finally hit the stage, saying, “After seven years, we’re excited to share Hot Jambalaya at Dad’s Garage. It is our hope that this is the first step in a bigger direction for Dad’s—it’s the first show of its size produced at the theatre since before the pandemic.”
Co-artistic director, Jon Carr, agrees:, “After nearly seven years in development, this show has produced some of the greatest musical numbers in the history of Dad's Garage.”
Hot Jambalaya is helmed by Atlanta theatre fan favorite Marcie Millard as Dorothy/Papa Joe and Alexander Hudson as Captain, and also features Charis Sellick, BriAnne Knights, Trevor Rayshay Perry, Noelle McIntyre, Sully Brown, Chris Hecke, Mya Burns, and Christina Cusack Curbelo. Candy McLellan Davison (The Color Purple and Petite Rouge) makes her Dad’s Garage director/choreographer debut, alongside Avery Sharpe (assistant director), Kari Twyman (assistant choreographer), Javar Parker (music director), Gavin Mosier (scenic designer), Jarrod Barnes (costume designer) and Dan Bauman (sound designer).
Preview performances are February 28, March 1, and March 6 for a reduced ticket price.
Press are invited to view Hot Jambalaya on opening night, March 7.
